Tree Protection Guidelines.
Jun 10, Tree Removal The tree removal permit procedure allows Planning Office staff to evaluate the requested removal of a protected tree (s). Trees located in R1, R1E, R2, R3, & RHS zones require a removal permit.
A Use Permit is required for the removal of 10% of trees canopy coverage, in HS zones. A Woodland Clearance Permit is required for the removal of 10% of trees or ½ acre of tree canopy coverage, whichever is less, in AR & HS zones. A Special Permit is required for hardwood tree cutting for firewood in AR zones. A permit is required when the tree (s) identified for removal are located in the County’s Coastal Zone and meet the criteria listed in the bulleted items below.
An additional situation in which a permit is required would be in an area considered"Sensitive Habitat" (refer to last bullet, below). Per County Code sectiona"significant tree" shall include any tree, sprout clump, or group of trees, as follows.
Having a City street tree trimmed or removed by anyone other than City personnel is punishable by a fine of up to 1, plus the cost of replacing the tree and any associated administrative costs.
