Some places are like that - an old tree happens to be their most remarkable.
I really love the spruce tree and my philosophy up to this point has been to leave her alone.
The blue spruce tree's slow growth makes it mostly intolerant to heavy pruning. In order to promote a positive response, the blue spruce must have enough time to repair itself before entering its dormant period.

Always complete this tree's pruning during the late winter or early spring months, just before the onset of its growing season. Prune conifers any time of year, but winter pruning causes less injury and there are fewer active pests and diseases to infect pruning wounds.
Sometimes we have to make a decision to trim the tree even when we would rather leave it like it is.
Warning Never. Apr 07, Labrador City Canada I don't see why trimming 6ft off of a 50ft blue spruce will be a problem. Apparently the spring is the best time to prune conifers. LabTea, Jan 28,
